Blog Review Numero Dos.

Jessica's blog ( :) ), which is about anything and everything, contains posts about her Netball team (glamourously named Prime Cuts), a review of my blog and the Top Twenty song of January 2009. Her avatar acutally resembles her and her Delicious bookmarks are related. I like this blog and I hope she writes more great posts [: Here is a link to her fantastical blog http://jessa366.blogspot.com/

Considering this task (writing a blog about the holidays) must be related to our blog theme, I have decided to declare my blog about everything happy and fun and joyful and all of those other warm and fuzzy emotions (hence the smiley face).

Inspiration..

Make up. My only inspiration other than my dog. I've seen some of the most amazing makeup jobs imaginable. Whether its wild, crazy, bright and super dooper colourful, or muted and natural...it can be quite inspiring when done right. The book "Makeup: The Ultimate Guide" (by none other than the legendary Rae Morris), is like, my bible. There are so many amazing looks and step by step guides for addicts like me. Anyway, I've gathered some pictures, so feel free to look through and enjoy! [:

Upon Lena's request..Techno Music.

Lena posted a comment in the Soul Music post about there not being a post about gangsta rap or techno. There's a reason there is no rap. Like country, gangsta rap is among the few genres of music i cannot stand to listen to without going insane (another genre is opera..), but, techno I can stand, so I will dedicate this techno post to Lena.

Techno emerged from Detroit, Michigan in the late 1980's. It blends synthesisers, funk, pop and electric jazz to create a very modern, even slightly futuristic sound. Techno, is a style of dance music, which is dominated (in my opinoin), but Daft Punk..

Anyway, there you go Lena, enjoy [:

Rock music.

Everybody's favourite thing in the world..a sequel :]

Rock music's roots lie in rythmn and blues, the later style of soul. Rock music entered the mainstream in the late 40's, early 50's. Seeing as most people know about rock, I'm not going to on and on like i did for soul music..anyway, here are some great genres of rock:

Soul Music.

A combination of gospel, rhythm and blues, soul music began in the 1940's, but became hugely popular in the 1960's. Ray Charles (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ray_Charles) is often thought of as the inventor of the genre, with hit after hit, beginning with 'I Got A Woman', released in 1954. Other influential soul atrists include Aretha Franklin, Billy Paul, James Brown, Marvin Gaye, Soul II Soul and Stevie Wonder. Unfortunately, the 80's, although a great time for pop music, brought in something i despise...hip hop. Some soul artists were, regrettably, corrupted by this. However, there are soem great modern soul artists today, including Seal and Asa.

Different styles of soul are still around, these include:

  • Mowtown Soul (recommended song- "I Want You Back" Jackson 5)

  • Deep Soul (recommended song- "Papa's Got A Brand New Bag" James Brown)

  • Memphis Soul (recommended song- "Mustang Sally" Wilson Pickett)

  • New Orleans Soul (recommended song- "Working In The Coal Mine" Lee Dorsey)

  • Philadelphia Soul (recommended song- "Me and Mrs. Jones" Billy Paul)

  • Phsycadelic Soul (recommended song- "September" Earth, Wind & Fire)

  • Blue Eyed Soul (recommended song- "Spoiled" Joss Stone)

  • Neo Soul (recommended song- "Jailer" Asa)

Oh, don't you love it so??

Comment if there are any other genres you want me to blog about, or if you have any other soul suggestions.

xoxo.

My Top Six =]

Hola a todos, coma estas? (Hey everybody, how are you..spanish =])

So, most of you have probably read the charts for music, or heard them on the radio, like the hot hits and stuff..well, ive decided to do my own (YAY) Personally, i find chart music to be boring and annoying...i prefer old school...so..read on if youd like to find out what makes my top six in music..comment if you have any worthy opinions, or a list of your own :]

MUSIC:
1.Bohemian Rhapsody-Queen Queen is my all time favourite band. Why? I'll tell you. They are AMAZING! The voacls, the guitar, the drums, the stage presence and charisma. What's not to like? Most people I know either hate them, or don't know who they are..which saddens me.
2.High Voltage-AC/DC AC/DC, another amazing band..most people know there songs It's a long way to the top (if you wanna rock n roll), or TNT, or whatever. But in my opinoin, this is the best.
3. Bed of Nails-Alice Cooper Alice Cooper, haha. He scares me in a good way, i think? I could listen to his music ALL day long, without getting bored. His makeup is..well...yeah.
4.Close To Me-The Cure Oh, how i love it so. This song is...wow. I love it, most people i know havnt actually heard of it or them, like Sugar Ray, which brings me to my next song..
5.When It's Over-Sugar Ray SUGAR RAY SUGAR RAY SUGAR RAY. I love them. I first heard this song on Nicelodean YEARS ago, back when it was awesome and aired shows like Radioactive and The Fresh Prince Of Bel Air. At any rate, it's amazing. Theyre amazing.
6.Papa's Got A Brand New Bag (James Brown)&Me And Mrs. Jones (Billy Paul) Equal sixth..and the only soul music to make it on my list. Back in the day, I used to listen to only rock, but then i discovered soul. I dont remember how, but i remember that i loved it. Love Love LOVE. Papa's got a brand new bag is not one of James Brown's (AKA The grandfather of soul) best known songs, but its amazing. As for Billy Paul, about half of the people i know, know this song, half of those, actually like it. As for me? I LOVE IT.

Adios amigos, te quiero.

Blog review:Lena.

Lena's blog is all about Japanese fashion magazine ViVi, which is the Asian equivalent of Vogue, Vogue Australia, Vogue Italy, Vogue India etc..Lena includes live links in her posts, which are frequently updated, and she has two photo albums of some of the fashion portraits in ViVi and some of the cover models (including Beyonce, Britney Spears and ViVi 'cover queen' Ayumi Hamasaki, who has appeared 24 times!!). Lena's posts incorporate information, pictures, slideshows, and Lena's personality. The only negative thing I have to say isn't really about Lena, but ViVi, because they actually bothered to include TWO PAGES about Paris and Nicky Hilton, who were once innocent child models, but decided to become conceited, idiodic, attention-seeking brats. Anyway, I'd love to write more on Lena's blog, but, as it's early days, there aren't a lot of posts, so I will conclude by saying that this is an excellent blog, and I look forward to reading more.

Term one, and the holidays.

YAY.Term One is almost over!! =]
This term has been...exciting...earlier on in the term, I'm flew down to Tasmania to go to a close friends wedding..and, if I'm allowed, I may post some pictures in an upcoming blog..? We stayed in Tasmania for another week, and spent 4 days in Stanley, home of The Nut.,then went to Devonport for around three days. Then we flew up to Melbourne where we stayed for two nights. On the first, we went to go see the musical Wicked, and it was really good. The next day, I spent all day shopping, mostly around the CBD, but also a bit in the Crown Entertainment place.
I'm looking forward to the holidays more than usual because I'm going up to Darwin to visit friends i haven't seen in almost TWO YEARS!!! During the beginning of this term, I saved up almost $400 to get the plane tickets, and now I'm doing chores around the house to get spending money. I leave on the 4th of April and get back the 7th of April..the day BEFORE i turn 15!! I started counting down like, 5 months ago..haha.
Unfortunately, Bec leaves before my birthday..I think around the 3rd of April, and Lena leaves a couple of days after.
Before I go, I just want to say that I think everybody should listen to the song Jailer by Asa, I discovered it on the plane back from Melbourne on the soul channel. It was completely accidental, I was surfing through the channels because the movie was terrible..it had something to do with this guy and Ford stealing his idea..anyway..the song is really good in my opinion and yeah..
xoxo
